Osteen's misleading Bible Pledge

"This is my Bible. I am what it says I am"…

Many of us have heard Joel Smiley’s opening. It goes a little something like this:

This is my Bible. I am what it says I am. I have what it says I have. I can do what it says I can do. Today I will be taught the word of God. I boldly confess my mind is alert, my heart is receptive; I’ll never be the same. In Jesus name, God bless you.

Yeah. Way too superficial don’t you think? Let’s try cleaning it up a bit. First, one for the unsaved in the crowd:

This is a Bible. I am what it says I am, a filthy, wretched, God-hating sinner. I have what it says I have, a corrupt heart capable only of despising the Lord who made me and sustains me. I can do what it says I can do; works that even the best God sees as a used menstrual pad. Today I will be taught the word of God, but my hard heart will have none of the truth unless the grace of God should intervene. I boldly confess my mind is corrupt, my heart is depraved; I’ll never repent! In Jesus’ name, God bless you.

Now, the one for those few who watch Joel Smiley who are actually saved:

This is my Bible. I am what it says I am: a wretched sinner saved by the grace of God alone. I have what it says I have, a new nature, a new disposition, and eternal life. I can do what it says I can do: kill sin by the Spirit, grow in holiness, and do truly good works. Today I will be taught the Word of God. I boldly confess my mind is being renewed by the Word working of the Spirit, my heart is leaping for joy in the presence of the Word; I’ll never be forsaken as Jesus paid the price for my sins. In Jesus’ name, God bless you.

Well… there you have it! Seems much more clear and suited to the various needs of the congregation.

  2. Never condemn the people of Christ, how can you believe if you haven't tried....the only way you can know if the paint is really wet is to touch the wall, the bible say come taste and see that the Lord is good....what i get from Olsteen's very credible pledge is:
This is my bible, I am what it says i am - a Christian, a sinner (in the act of professing that you ARE A SINNER and you want to go higher in Christ)
I have what it says I have: The holy spirit, power to discern spirits, free will, ability to worship Jesus, ability to change into what Jesus Christ wants me to be
I can do what it says I can do: Cast out demons in the name of Jesus Christ, put on the full Armour of God....MOVE MOUNTAINS
and no i don't attend his church...but this is a good pledge that we should live by...believe the word of our God...Jesus Bless

Always looking for 5 legs on a cat, Pharisees and Sadducees always critizing those that God blesses putting loads on people that they're not able to lift with one finger ,Jesus always said of such they honor me by lips but their HEARTS is far from me...GOD continues to bless Joel Olsteen because his not moved by the spirit of critizismn but moved by the Spirit of the Living God

4 Also -- when I walk in a valley of death-shade, I fear no evil, for Thou [art] with me, Thy rod and Thy staff -- they comfort me.

  5. This is not "Joels saying" if you did your research you would know it was something his dad, Pastor John Osteen created for us, the congregation...I grew up in Lakewood and witnesses the creation of this...with all of us together! It's actually been shortened now. You tube John Osteen and see it for yourself. Knowledge is important especially when judging.

  6. All i see is supremely mistaken jealousy. You ended up saying the exact same thing in your rant. Go do a work comparable then ask me to listen

  7. This is (while slightly rude in it's presentation... or it could just be zelous) beautiful. Joel was a part (of many pastors) who lead me to understand Christ. But it was a unique situation. I KNEW I was a depraved sinner. I didn't believe ANYONE or ANYTHING could ever love or value me. I came to this thinking God had nothing for me and he was a mean God who just wanted me in line. When I heard this it brought me to realize (through other biblical teaching) how much love God has for me. It is a very one sided gospel but it is a part of it. While I do not perticulary like Joel or his teaching I know that GOd used him as a huge part in my life and I thank him for that

  8. I am a practicing Catholic, not so prejudicial that I cannot hear a message from another church or faith. I enjoy Pastor Olsteen's televised service. I find him eloquent ; he doesn't rant or shout , thanks fairly much!
